May 7, 1997 | The NT Executive - InternalsWe were privileged to welcome Tony Mason of Open Systems Resources, one of the world's NT Internals experts. Tony presented an overview of NT Internals, specifically the architecture of the operating system, touching on the key components that make up Windows NT. Tony spoke for almost 2 hours continuously. This was after a full day of teaching his File System internals course. We had to convince him to stop to at least allow a plug for his company - OSR. As we predicted, there was almost no question about NT that he could not answer. Open Systems Resources is based in Amherst, NH. OSR offers consulting and custom development services for NT Drivers, File Systems and related services. No presentation is available. |

HighGround SystemsStorage Resource Management in NT 5.0In September 1996, HighGround Systems, a Boxboro, MA company, entered a development, marketing, and technology agreement with Microsoft. In a move that will bring enterprise-class Storage Resource Management tools to Microsoft Windows® NT Server and Windows NT Workstation, Microsoft will embed the Media Services component of HighGround technology in a future release of Windows NT. Windows NT Media Services (NTMS) will provide standard management tools for bulk-media drives and robotic libraries and relieve ISVs of the burden of having to provide proprietary bulk-media management and device/changer integration. With NTMS, storage resources will become sharable by multiple applications, and the control point of decisions about when and how to implement new storage resource technologies will shift into the hands of the End User. Presented by Tom Rose of HighGround. Presentation is available here (72 kb ZIP, Powerpoint). |

Octopus TechnologyDavid Crocker, CEO, and Alan Rabinovich, Exec. VP of Technology, of Octopus presented their innovative product. Octopus software for Windows NT provides data fault tolerance and real time data protection for Windows NT networks. With Octopus, updates to source files are mirrored to disks across LANs and WANs at user-specified targets. An up-to-date copy of mirrored files is available on the network in the event of data loss or hardware failure at the source location. Octopus ASO (Automatic Switch Over) can be used to configure a target system to automatically assume the role of a failed source system - with no reboot or human intervention. Octopus Technologies is also releasing SUPER ASO (code name), a significant release to Octopus ASO, concurrent with the release of NT 4.0. SUPER ASO, a clustering product, provides switch over in less than one second and also allows for the target server to maintain its legacy responsibilities.
